Let’s explore that, and the overall power of using nature’s best gifts on your skin.

Which Ingredients Are Beneficial In Skincare?

Why Choose Plant-Based Skincare Products?

They are great for your skin

It goes without saying that plant-based products are great for your skin. Many of them, like chamomile and rosehip, have been used since ancient times for their healing properties. Plant-based products are easier on your skin too, compared to synthetic products and are less irritating.

They are better for the environment

Skincare products made with natural ingredients are sourced from sustainable and renewable sources that are less harmful to the environment than those using man-made ingredients.

They can be tested on humans, not animals

Many skincare products are tested on animals, even today. But most natural skincare producers can avoid animal testing and test their products on humans instead. All summer + bloom products are tested on real people.

Some Of The Plant-Based Ingredients In Our Products

We use a wide range of plant-based and natural ingredients in our cleansers, moisturisers and masks. Here are some of our favourites:

Chamomile - Derived from the chamomile plant, the oil has been used since ancient Greek, Egyptian and Roman times. It has calming properties and is also good for skin conditioning.

Rosehip - Rosehip oil is derived from the rosa canina bush found mostly in South America and is pressed from the fruit and seeds. It has been used for many years for its healing properties and has many skin-nourishing vitamins. Rosehip oil can be used as a cleanser, helping to exfoliate the skin and can help boost collagen, which keeps the skin firm.

Calendula - Calendula is extracted from marigold flowers. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It can be used to reduce the signs of acne and generally cleanse the skin.

Manuka honey - Manuka honey is well known in New Zealand for its wonderful properties. One of the benefits is its ability to potentially reduce skin irritation, particularly associated with acne.

Jojoba - Jojoba oil, cultivated from a hearty plant found in North America, has many benefits for skincare. It keeps the skin hydrated and works as an antioxidant. It also helps to regulate sebum production, which stops your skin from becoming too oily.

Kakadu plum - Kakadu plums are found in Northern Australia. They are one of the best sources of vitamin C and help to reinforce the antioxidants in your skin and produce collagen.

Coffee seed - Even stronger than Green Tea, which has similar properties, coffee seed extract, can help to moisturise and soften skin and reduce the signs of ageing.

Mulberry leaf - Mulberry leaf extract comes from the dried leaves of the white mulberry tree. It can be beneficial to skin that is uneven in tone or has dark spots because it can lighten pigmentation and even out skin tone.

Almond oil - this oil contains many elements that are good for you, including Vitamins A and E, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids. Almond oil may help with reducing skin puffiness, improving complexion and reducing the impact of sun damage.

Hyaluronic acid - Hyaluronic acid is found throughout the body and cushions joints, among other things. It can be used in skincare to help the skin to retain water and keep skin looking hydrated and plump. It may also help with acne breakouts.
